The Learning Ladder is a learning app for children, used by their parents. This policy explains what we keep, why, and your rights over it, including under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023. Questions or requests:[email protected].
What we keep
About the parent
- Your username or email address, and your password — stored only as a salted hash, never in readable form.
- For a subscription: your email and the plan, invoices and payments on your account.
About each child
- The name or nickname you give them, an avatar, and the PIN they sign in with (also stored only as a hash).
- Their learning: which questions they answered, whether correctly, how long they took, and any writing they did — so they can pick up where they left off, the app can schedule review, and you can see their progress.
- The step and daily question goal you choose for them.
We do not ask for a child’s surname, date of birth, school, photo or location.
Why we keep it
- To run the app: signing in, saving progress, syncing between your devices, and showing you the parent view.
- To run your subscription: invoices, renewals, promo codes and referral rewards.
- To keep accounts safe: counting failed sign-in attempts so an account cannot be guessed at.
We never sell your data, show adverts, or use your child’s learning for anything but their learning.
Who else handles it
- Payments are taken by Paystack or Flutterwave, on their own secure pages. We never see or store your card number; we keep only the gateway’s reference so a renewal can be charged to the card you chose.
- Email (password reset links) is sent through Zoho ZeptoMail.
- Network traffic reaches our servers through Cloudflare, which protects the site.
The app and its data run on servers we operate ourselves.
Cookies and analytics
- Sign-in cookies keep you and your children signed in on a device. They are essential and are not used for anything else.
- A referral cookie (
ll_attr, 30 days) remembers which referral link or campaign brought you to the site, so the right family gets the reward when you sign up. It holds no personal information. - Analytics: we count visits with Plausible, which we host ourselves. It uses no cookies and stores no personal information; it cannot follow you between days or between websites.
How long we keep it
For as long as your family’s account is open. If you ask us to delete it, we delete your family’s accounts and learning records; our nightly backups are kept for 14 days and then deleted, so a deleted account is gone from backups within 14 days too. Payment records may need to be kept longer where the law on financial records requires.
Your rights
You can ask us to:
- tell you what we hold about you and your children, and give you a copy;
- correct anything that is wrong;
- delete your family’s data;
- stop using it for a particular purpose.
Email [email protected] from the address on your account. If you are unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission.
Children
Children use the app under a parent’s account: a parent creates it and adds each child. Children never see adverts, prices or anything asking for their details.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and tell you in the app.
